The 9th Fero meeting. Finding Extreme Relativistic Objects, in Crete

23-25 May, 2018. Heraklion, Crete, Greece

The first FERO meeting took place in February 2008, at the European Space Astronomy Center near Madrid. Since then, 7 more FERO meetings have been organised in various locations across Europe. Their main objective is to gather observational and theoretical astronomers interested in the physics of the innermost regions of accretion black holes across the whole mass scale, to present their latest results, discuss the state-of-art, and plan future observations and theoretical develpments in the field.

The 9th FERO workshop will take place in Heraklion, in the island of Crete, Greece.

The meeting will be structured in six broad sessions, each devoted to addressing a specific aspect of the astrophysics of accreting black holes:

  • Determining basic parameters of astrophysical black holes: spin, mass, accretion rates

  • The X-ray corona structure

  • Unification of accreting black holes over the whole mass scale

  • The corona/disk/BLR connection in AGN: clues from multi-wavelength observations

  • Intermediate-mass black holes: GW vs. electromagnetic spectrum

  • Relativistic astrophysics with XARM and Athena

FERO workshops have always been highly interactive events, and this meeting will follow a similar structure. For each session we envisage two long review talks, a few (2-3) contributed talks on recent highlights, and plenty of time for discussion in between.
